Wordy Wednesday

It's Wednesday.  For many, it's one of the busier days of the week.  You realize all the work that must be done before Friday.  Maybe you have commitments in the evening that tie you up. Maybe you are just tired after a couple long days at work.

Regardless, Wordy Wednesday here at 'The Sunset Won't' is a quote, short passage or verse that I enjoy and want to share with you.  Today's quotes are all about education and teaching since the school year is fast approaching!  So here is this week's Wordy Wednesday installment:

"My father always said, 'education is the one cure-all for insecurity."
-Hugh Jackman

Public education is essential to democracy.

As educators we expect parents to meet us halfway; but we should go as far as we need to in order to do what's best for the student.

I do not teach history.  I teach students.

It should not be teacher tells, but student think.

The classroom is where we all come together.

Teaching is one of the most important careers in a democratic society because it can prepare students to be productive citizens who can think crucially about society and their own lives.

Nobody enters the teaching profession for the money.  We are called to teach by our love of children, our reverence for knowledge, and our desire to make a difference.

  1. Good teachers are SO IMPORTANT. The value of a good teacher cannot be measured by a wage. They are so much more than just vessels of knowledge - they're mentors, guiders, helpers...

  3. Wonderful topic for this time of the year. Heather! I admire teachers for what they do and how they help shape future! Out of curiosity, though, does it ever scare you to think of all the responsibility resting on your shoulders as a teacher?

  4. I like the one from Hugh Jackman- so true! At our in-service this year, our superintendent said, "Teaching is the profession that makes all others possible." That is so true. Take care and thanks for posting these!

  5. Hema: It does. Not only are we as teachers shaping minds but we are shaping people. It can be a lot of responsibility. What makes it better is knowing, and hoping, that there are other adults in the students lives that will help shape the students into the people they are destined to become.

Holly: I really like what your superintendent said. Very true.

Jess: I really enjoy that one too. You read the "What Do You Make" teacher passage. It's great. You can find it here:
