Vacation at Gettysburg

I spent Spring Break in Washington D.C. with my family.  [When I told someone that at work they asked how old my kids were… umm… no.  However much my mom wants me to pop out a kid right now, that's not a reality.]

Anywho, My parents, brother and I spent 8 days sightseeing around D.C., Mount Vernon and Gettysburg.

The most amazing thing to me was the history.  That 150 years ago soldiers marched across this field to the left, hid in that barn and fought each other over the future of our nation.  As I walked around Gettysburg it was stunning to me to picture the history.  To know that men died where I stood.

We stayed at a hotel where General Lee had his headquarters.  I stood where President Abraham Lincoln gave his famous Gettysburg Address.  It seemed surreal to me.  I am living the life I have, teaching the students I am because of the things that happened here.

Soaking it in, listening to the audio tour it was breathtaking.

It was humbling.

And I was so glad that I could be there to absorb a little more history.

Remember, many things in life can wait.
But taking in a bit of history,
appreciating the sacrifices of others
and The Sunset Won't.
