Along for the Ride: Title Tuesday

Just over two years ago I had had a conversation with my principal about my desire to possibly get a second teaching license, realizing that my Social Studies license might not be enough to get me a full-time job.  At least until I have more experience.  So I got my reading license.  Then got a part-time job in my building which led to a full-time job last year and this upcoming year.

I was living at home and then my best friend from college, through a crazy set of circumstances moved in with us.  Three weeks later we were moving into our own duplex.

On Tuesday I was called by my AP and asked hat I was doing that night.  In the end, 8 hours after that phone call I was on a plane to a conference in Dallas, Texas.  What!?

Why do I bring up these three things?  Because they were all unexpected.  Not a part of my plan, my carefully thought out plan of exactly where my life would go.

I've been living for a plan.  Thinking that my life needs to play out a certain way.  It needs to live up to this image that I've had in my head.

It's hard to turn off the GPS and just go where the road takes you.  It's hard to remember to look out the side windows to see the fun, the beauty, the life that is happening around you when you're eyes are only glued to what's next.  To where you're going.

But life isn't about either/or.  It's not about the direct path from A to B without any bumps or detours along the way.

And me?  Well, I'm just Along for the Ride.

"Life shouldn't be about the either/or.  We're capable of more than that, you know?"
